Brendan Gallagher studied computer graphics at the Pratt Institute in NYC. He quickly became immersed in the field of 3D computer animation and served as senior animator and technical director for the award winning PBS medical special “Cholesterol: The Killer Within” (1996). After establishing himself as a 3D artist in New York, Brendan joined Digital Domain in Los Angeles. There he served as a 2D digital effects and compositing artist on films such as "Dante's Peak" and "The Fifth Element", and as a character animator on Jim Cameron's "Titanic." Brendan continued to follow his passion for character animation in New York where he worked on numerous animated productions for companies such as Curious Pictures, Pitch Productions, Nick Jr. and Noggin. It was at Pitch that Brendan was introduced to short animated film production. He served as Technical Director and a senior character animator for Pitch's first animated short, "Antics" (produced for Nick Jr.) "Antics" was screened the Siggragh Electronic Theater and won an "Excellence in Animation" award at the 1999 ASIFA-East Animation Awards. Brendan was then tapped to be a senior character animator on Steve Katz's acclaimed HD animated short, "Protest." It has won over a dozen international film festival awards and aired on the Sci-Fi channel. Brendan's first animated short film, "Little G." garnered the grand prize award, ‘Filmmaker of the Future’ at the 2001 Yahoo Film Festival. "Little G" has screened at international film festivals such as the Chicago International Children’s Film festival, and BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). It was on IFilm.com’s top ten viewed animations list for eight weeks, and aired on the PAX Family channel. It has also screened by special invitation in children’s programs at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. In 2002, Brendan’s original animation pitch for “The Frightlings” won 2nd place in the Viewer’s choice and Staff favorite’s categories in Animation Magazine’s ‘Animation Pitch Party’. Brendan is also Animation Thesis instructor in the BFA program at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, and develops original content for short animated films, series and children’s books.
